Confused about this post? Start with the intro - HERE

I am grateful for my body.

I have had a complicated relationship with my body throughout my life, such is the conditioning of an ex gymnast and multi sport practitioner living in a society that values certain attributes. (Plus if you read my previous post, you know that I struggled with migraines and it can be hard to love something that can put you in bed for days at a time in a dark room, though I now understand more about why that was). Through practice, perspective change, and habit change, I have significantly changed my relationship to my body. I now start each day with a gratitude prayer of love for my body. I love you body, thank you body.

Do I love it all the time? No, I’m a human in this world, but I can say, that I love it more often and more fiercely than I used to. I appreciate it more. I know what it is capable of. I know how it supports me. I know the wisdom it contains. I know the way it helps me traverse the world and this existence. When I find myself in a negative thought spiral around it, I interrupt the thoughts with a deep dose of love and gratitude and it brings me back into relationship with my body in a new way each time. Your relationship with it doesn’t have to be perfect or consistent even, but I encourage you to explore the possibility that you could create a new connection with your body based on something you create instead of what someone or culture impressed upon you from the outside. Our bodies are truly miraculous.
